Off the beaten track

If you don't mind the physical effort you will be largely recompensed by your efforts with this selection of outings.

Clue de la cerise:

This is my favourite place for swimming in river during the summer season. While thousands of tourists are on the beaches, you can get out of the crowd and swim on this clear and relatively warm water of the "Esteron" river.
After 15min downhill walk you get to the medieval stone bridge over the Esteron River. There a first big natural pool and 1m high natural toboggan is waiting for you and your children.

If you like adventure, dress your shoes and swim down the river, you will cross a natural rocky arch and some narrow limestone corridors with calm clear green water. Afterwards you will need to swim back to the starting point, so avoid children in this area.

It will take you about 30min drive to get there, you need to take the N-202 (direction Grenoble/Digne) and turn left direction Gilette/Roquesteron following the D-17.
After the village of Gilette you will pass Colle belle and some meters after a non-paved route starts on the left. You need to park there and follow the route downhill for about 15min walk.

Cap d'antibes:

If you have some spare time in the afternoon and want to get some sight seeing when the sun is going down, you should go to the cap d'antibes.
The complete walk will take you about 2hrs on this narrow path overlooking the med and the coast.

To get there from Antibes you need to follow the sea route that goes to "Cap d'antibes". The path starts at the end of the beach "La garoupe". Don't forget to take the mosquitos repelent !

Walking arround "Cap d'antibes"

Be aware that if the sea is rough this is a dangerous area.

Season: Any sunny day around the year.

Col de fenestre:

One of the most amazing things of the area is the contrast between the highlands and the sea side. If you like walking (randonee) and you want to take the fresh air, you can head to "Madone de Fenestre" and have a walk to discover the beauty of the highlands.

From la "Madone de fenestre" at about 1900m high you can walk up to the "Col the fenestre" at 2.400m high. It will take you about 2hrs uphill to reach the pass. During the walk you will cross chamois, bouquetins and marmottes.
It's a relatively long walk but children really enjoy seeing the wild animals.

Bouquetins at "Col de fenestre"

Remember to take warm clothes and sport shoes.
To get there you will need to rent a car and drive the N-202 and then turn right direction St Martin de Vesubie through the D-2565. After St Martin de Vesubie, a nice highland village you need to turn right direction "Madone de Fenestre"

It will take you about 1h15min drive from Nice center.

Pointe de l'Aiguille:

Theoule is a nice place with some sandy beaches and the Natural reserve of "Pointe de l'Aiguille".
If you like jumping from the rocks to the sea, snorkling... this is the spot to go.
There is a "sentier submarin" that is also worth snorkling.

To get there you can take the train and stop at Theoule from there you will need to walk or get somebody to drive you there. The coast route from Theoule to Frejus follows the Esterel natural park with scenic views of the med and red rocky mountains.
